Enduring Powers of Guardianship
Enduring Powers of Guardianship (EPG)
An EPG is a legal document where you appoint someone (the “Guardian”) to make your medical, lifestyle and healthcare decisions on your behalf should you become incapable of making such decisions for yourself. For example, a Guardian may decide where you live, whether you work, and provide or refuse consent to medical treatments on your behalf.
Under an EPG, you may appoint one or more Guardians, who must act jointly. You may limit the types of decisions your Guardian may make on your behalf, limit the circumstances in which your Guardian may act, and provide specific directions about how your Guardian is to perform their functions.
An EPG will only come into effect if you are unable to make reasonable decisions in respect to your person.
